The English department offers three options for the English Major: the Liberal Arts Program, the Professional Writing Program, and the Secondary English Teacher Certification Program.
- The Liberal Arts Program provides the traditional course of study in literature and language arts.
- The Professional Writing Program is designed to give FMU English majors the best tools possible to succeed in the competitive world of writing.
- The Secondary English Teacher Certification Program provides the knowledge base for students certifying to teach English for grades 9-12 in the state of South Carolina. The program provides students the foundation they need to build a career that allows them to make a difference in the lives of others.
Students majoring in other fields of study may elect to minor in English. In addition to a minor in literature, three minors in writing also are offered, including Creative Writing, Professional Writing, and Writing and Language.
